As a new school year commences at Bates College, a group of more than 60 students, called Junior Advisors and Resident Coordinators, welcome first-year students and support returning students as they settle into residential life at Bates.

Several local residents made the academic Deans' List at Azusa Pacific University. These students are honored for a spring 2014 grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They are joined by 1,743 students receiving the same honor.

This fall, Carthage welcomes 824 new students to the campus community. The total includes 714 incoming freshmen and 110 transfer students. They come from 23 states -- as far away as Alaska, Arizona, California, North Carolina, and Oregon -- and five foreign countries: China, Greece, Ireland, Japan, and Kenya.

Capital University has announced its Dean's List honorees for the spring 2014 semester.

Warhawks claim ninth WIAC championship

The following students were candidates for undergraduate and graduate degrees during the May 2014 commencement ceremony at Coastal Carolina University.

Each year, the Honors Program sponsors a competition to reward excellence in creativity and research by Carthage students. Projects may be either a student's personal work or course-related material. Projects may be individual or collaborative.

Carthage College held the fourth annual Celebration of Scholars on Friday, May 2, 2014. Celebration of Scholars showcases the research, scholarly, and creative achievements of students and faculty from all academic divisions at Carthage.

Augustana College announced 858 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2013 winter term. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.

Enactus, open to all majors, works throughout the year on projects in six categories: Market Economics, Success Skills, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, Business Ethics, Environmental Sustainability, and Sustainability. The purpose of this sorority is to assemble the women of Carthage College in the spirit of service to humanity. It serves to develop friendship among women of all races and creeds. Through Pi Delta Chi women have the opportunity to serve the community in various ways. 10 service hours are required each semester for membership.

Phi Alpha Theta is a honors fraternity for history students on campus. Membership is based off of a student's departmental GPA and amount of classes taken within the History Department. It is one of the oldest national academic honors fraternity and has had a chapter at Carthage since the 1960s.

As a community, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, we see Jesus as the source of truth and life for all people. Our vision is to see students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed, and world change developed.

The International Friendship Society is a group of students on campus that come together to bring awareness to the Carthage community about other cultures, including food, music, dance and more. IFS also organizes the Annual International Dinner, which raises money for an elected non-profit organization.

Alpha Chi Omega is a social sorority on campus. Members pride themselves on upholding the five membership criteria of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority: academic interest, character, financial responsibility, leadership ability, and personal development.
