In today's competitive job market, college students recognize the value of high-impact learning experiences, like internships, study abroad and research.

Miami University students who are ranked in the top three percent of undergraduate students within each division for first semester 2013-14 have been named to the president's list recognizing academic excellence.

This tour focused on how physical geographic factors and human intervention have affected the flora and fauna of the world's largest freshwater tropical island. The tour included a trip to the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua.

A total of 847 students have been named to the Carthage College Dean's List for the Fall 2013 semester.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Carthage Theatre Department was invited to present a full production of a new play at the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Regional Festival Jan. 7-11, and several Carthage students and faculty received recognition for excellence in collegiate theater.

Capital University has announced the names of students who were named to the Dean's List during the fall 2013 semester. The Dean's List recognizes academic distinction achieved among full-time, degree-seeking students.

The Augustana Symphonic Band will tour Japan from February 21-March 4. The band will perform four concerts, including two exchange concerts with Japanese ensembles.

Augustana College announced 839 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2013 fall term. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.

Thirty-seven Baldwin Wallace University fall sport student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team. To qualify, each student-athlete had to have a minimum 3.495 grade point average or higher and achieve varsity status on his or her team. BW had the second most selections of any OAC institution.

Several area residents received merit scholarships to attend Fort Lewis College for the Fall 2013 semester. These merit scholarships are renewable for up to 120 credits if criteria are met. Fort Lewis College also offers several other scholarships, including grants, the Finish in Four! Scholarship, FLC Foundation scholarships, alumni scholarships, departmental scholarships, Native American scholarships, and outside scholarships.

The Fall 2013 semester welcomed more than 1300 new transfer and freshmen students to Durango, Colorado.

Capital University has announced its Provost's List for the spring 2013 semester. The Provost's List recognizes a high level of academic distinction achieved among full-time, degree-seeking students. To be named to the Provost's List, students must have achieved a GPA of at least 3.70 during the spring 2013 semester.

Area students who compete in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association sports at Trine University have been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. The MIAA Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who achieved a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the entire 2012-13 academic year while also earning a varsity letter in a sport. Initiated in 1990, the Academic Honor Roll recognizes students at MIAA member colleges who excel in athletics and academics.

The Augustana College Symphonic Band recently returned from its 2013 tour of the Midwest. The tour included stops in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska. The band will perform its final concert of the tour at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, in Augustana's Centennial Hall, Rock Island, Illinois. Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be accepted.
